Visitors to New York City either think they know Williamsburg or that it’s just not for them. Having a more recent reputation as a home to hipsters or seeing the extensive L train renovations may have put you off from taking the trip over / under the East River. Well not only is Like A Local Tours a Williamsburg expert, but it’s also our home neighborhood! When you join us there, you’ll hear our guides talk about the history of the neighborhood from First Nations to immigration, the boom and then bust, and the eventual reinvention of the area. We walk the side streets and back streets, take in the unique view of the Manhattan Skyline, and spend time at some of the delicious Mom and Pop eateries that the neighborhood has to offer, all giving you a foundation to Williamsburg that can be used to then go adventuring yourself.

2019 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and the birth of Gay Rights activism, making New York City the home for World Pride. These days we know Gay Pride as a movement for equality for all who identify as LGTBQIA. It has brought us powerful progressive legislation and now the first openly gay Presidential candidate. But in late June 1969 it was the actions of a few brave people that galvanized a community, and little could they have imagined how far we would come!
It’s always 5 O’clock somewhere, and in New York we can make our Happy Hours last all night! Now that Spring has Sprung and the weather is warmer, you’ll find the locals on the rooftops, sidewalks and speakeasys, sipping the latest cocktail trends, and all for those magic discounted prices. One of the best things about Brooklyn is the craft maker movement. Several of our tours are built around experiencing this phenomenon which not only is an opportunity to learn about these dynamic businesses, but a chance to meet and interact with the people who built them. One of those places is Van Brunt Stillhouse which we visit on our Red Hook Tour. We had a chance to chat with Nic Cowles who is the Tasting Room Manager of Van Brunt Stillhouse…
