Interview with a Local: Meghan Love of Mable’s Smokehouse
Mable’s Smokehouse has been a neighborhood gem in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, since it opened in 2012. A BBQ joint is a bit unorthodox for the neighborhood and perhaps that precisely why it’s so beloved. Praised by the New York Times, Food & Wine Magazine, Eater, Travel Channel, New York Magazine, The Village Voice and many many more. We were fortunate to chat with Meghan Love, of the husband and wife team behind it all.
Interview with a Local: Hartje Andresen of Pudge Knuckles
This month, we spoke to Hartje Andresen of Pudge Knuckles, a coffee shop favorited by locals, as well as a wine bar and roastery. It’s also a featured stop on our Williamsburg Bites Brooklyn Food Tour and Sunday Funday Boozy Brooklyn Tour. As their website states, “Packed with the full flavor and energy of New York City, PUDGE KNUCKLES is not just another coffee shop. PUDGE KNUCKLES was started by Ivan Greene & Hartje Andresen. Ivan is a former top ranked professional rock climber and Hartje is a highly sought after professional model.”

Day 3 Highlights: On day 2, we booked a last minute tour with Eat Like a Local for their Boozy Sunday tour of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. First thing though, we headed out to the Empire State Building, where there was a surprisingly minimal line up for Sunday at 10AM. The trip to the 86th floor was $32pp – moderately worth it. If I could have a do-over, I’d trade this for the NBC studio tour and trip to the top of the Rockefeller. From here we walked (yes, walked), south and across the Williamsburg bridge into Brooklyn for a 3.5 hour food and art tour ($55pp), which was well worth it! Stops ranged from beer and bbq to wine and ice-cream, topped off with a visit to a local flea market. I would definitely recommend this – especially the 1001 beer at the Brooklyn Brewery. Stuffed and satisfied, we took the subway (first time!) back into the city.
